Nvidia & X läuft nicht

Also ich wollte mir die neuen NVIDIA Treiber gönnen um die 3D Beschleunigung zu genießen, aber eingebrockt habe ich mir damit leider nur Probleme...

Nach der Standartinstallation von X (über tasksel) konnte ich mit startx ganz normal den XServer starten und ein bisschen unter xdm rumclicken, oder besser gesagt: ich konnte X starten... konnte...

Nach dem kompilieren des GLX & NV Kernel Moduls und dem entsprechenden Anpassen der XFree86config starte ich X...

Das einzige was erscheint ist ein weißes Bild mit einigen grünen und schwarzen Pixeln. Ich denke es ist das Nvidia Logo, daß ich aus Testgründen noch anzeigen lassen will. Weiter passiert nix.

Das einzige was mir fehlerhaft erscheint ist ein Error der in die log Datei geschrieben wird:

"(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to obtain shared Memory identifier"

Er bricht an dieser Stelle den Start vom XServer aber nicht ab...

Hat diesen Fehler schonmal jemand gelöst oder weiß sonst einen Rat? Hängt diese Shared Memory Geschichte vielleicht mit dem Kernel zusammen, etwa das der Kernel mit Shared Memory Support kompiliert sein muß?

Ich kann die XF86Config und die Log Datei auf Wunsch auch noch posten, aber heute (00:11) nicht mehr ;)...

Shared Memory hört sich nach einern On-Board Grafka an ? - Ist dem so ?

Es kann sein das der Speicher der Karte nicht korrekt erkannt wird und du ihn explizit in der XF86Conf mit angeben mußt .....
 
ich hatte vor kurzem auch probleme mit den neuen nvidia treibern. habe leider nicht herausbekommen, woran es lag. mit den älteren ging es allerdings problemlos.
 
Tja dann scheinen die neuen Treiber einfach Müll zu sein !

Ich tippe nun auch auf die Treiber die mein System schrotteten !

also meien Dist. ist (wie das Forum wo ich ja reingepostet habe es vermuten läßt) Debian 3.0. Die Grafikkarte ist ne GeForce 3, nicht onboard sonder über AGP. Noch mehr?

Ich habe das selbe Problem mit den selben Fehlermeldungen mit den 3123er und den nagelneuen 4191er Treibern von Nvidia... zumindest dieses Problem scheint nicht mit der neuen Version zusammenzuhängen...

warum hast du AGP disabled, obwohl du eine AGP-Graka hast???
Hier ein auszug aus der NV-GLX-README:
Option "NvAGP" "integer"
Configure AGP support. Integer argument can be one of:
0 : disable agp
1 : use NVIDIA's internal AGP support, if possible
2 : use AGPGART, if possible
3 : use any agp support (try AGPGART, then NVIDIA's AGP)
Please note that NVIDIA's internal AGP support cannot
work if AGPGART is either statically compiled into your
kernel or is built as a module, but loaded into your
kernel (some distributions load AGPGART into the kernel
at boot up). Default: 3 (the default was 1 until after
1.0-1251).

also setz einfach mal NvAGP auf 3 und dann müsste es funzen!

@all: ich weiß nicht, was ihr immer habt, die neueren NVIDIA-treiber funktionieren doch problemlos und wenn nicht, gibts dafür eine logische erklärung :D

Also es ist ja nicht so daß ich solche Sachen noch nicht probiert hätte, aber mit keiner Einstellung bei "NvAGP" funktioniert es!

Desweiteren habe ich auch schon wie in der Readme für manche Boards/Karten empfohlen versucht die AGP Rate von 4x auf 2x zu senken... auch ohne Erfolg...

An solche "Primitivitäten" hab ich schon gedacht. Bevor ich einen Beitrag poste, muß es ja schon soweit kommen, daß ich keine Ideen mehr habe ;)

Also ich lasse die APG unterstützung auch vorerst aus, nicht das ich dann irgendwann das eigentliche Problem gelöst habe und es dann das AGP ist, was anschließend für Fehler sorgt (und sich eventuell auf die gleiche Art und Weise bemerkbar macht).

Hast du keine Idee für den Shared Memory Fehler???

also, was ich kann mir unter shared memory ehrlich gesagt nichts konkretes vorstellen...
mach mal "lspci -v" als root und poste davon den output der graka.
dann machst du mal "cat /proc/mtrr" und postet bitte auch mal den output.
ich hab da so eine ahnung, könnte aber auch quatsch sein...

ok, sowas hatte ich mir gedacht... da passt was nicht.
ich sage schon mal vorweg: ich bewege mich hier auf neuland... also bei datenverlust übernehme ich keine verantwortung!
wie man am output von "cat /proc/mtrr" erkennen kann, ist dort zweimal der selbe speicherbereich aufgeführt, was meiner meinug nach nicht korrekt sein kann. aber weil ich dir bei diesen problem wirlich null nicht helfen kann, lass ich's lieber...
so, nun probieren wir mal was bzl. deiner graka aus:

hier habe ich die daten der ausgabe von lspci eingegeben. ich kann nicht sagen, ob es dann funktioniert, ich kann auch nicht sagen, ob dann evtl. der kernel abschmiert... ich würde vorher syncen (ALT+Druck+S) und alle filesystem read-only mounten (ALT+Druck+U). dann dürfte bei einem totalcrash nix mehr passieren. ;)

also gut, ich hab gesynct und ro gemountet, und des echo ausgeführt... ich bin unter der bash und habe trotzdem beide ausprobiert... bei beiden komme ich wieder zurück ins Prompt, ohne irgendwas anderes. Nichts passiert, und startx verhält sich immer noch gleich...

So, nun läuft mein X :)

Des Rätsels Lösung war der Shared Momory Support des Kernels, welches mit der Option "System V IPC" in den Kernel mit eingelinkt werden mußte...

Aaahh, das hätte ich auch ned gedacht...
aber ich compilier IPC (interprocess communication) immer in den kernel! das ist fast lebenswichtig :D
