Soll heißen, den proprietären Treiber. Diese Version wurde gestern (nachdem die Probleme bereits da waren) per automatischem Update installiert, ohne jeden merkbaren Unterschied im Verhalten.
Aber das bringt mich auf die Idee, mal testweise auf den OS-Treiber umzuschalten und zu schauen, ob dann wieder alles funktioniert, wie es soll... Ich sag nachher mal Bescheid, ob sich daraus neue Erkenntnisse ergeben haben.
Ach ja, und mit Compiz hatte ich mich bis auf ein kurzes Ausprobieren nach Deiner Frage überhaupt nicht befaßt. Ich hatte besseres zu tun, als mich mit so einem Firlefanz zu befassen.
Funktioniert übrigens weitestgehend problemlos, nur die Drop-Down-Listen im Compiz-Konfigurationsfenster bleiben manchmal stecken.

Es wird nur ein einziges Modul vom propr. Nvidia-Treiber geladen, und das heißt sinnigerweise
nvidia.
Gegen das zusätzliche Laden von Modulen beim Systemstart nach Aktivierung des TV-Ausgangs spricht auch, daß man das System danach nicht neu starten muß. Das Problem mit dem Bezug auf die
xorg.conf in dieser Sache ist, daß auch eine neue, frisch per
sax2 erstellte Datei die Probleme nicht wieder aus der Welt schafft.

Ich weiß nicht genau ob b) gemacht wird, weil eigentlich der Xserver nur bedingt was mit dem TV-Ausgang zu tun hat, ich gehe aber sehr stark damit aus. Poste auf jeden Fall mal dein xorg.conf, das wird nämlich nicht an gnome / kde sondern viel mehr am x-server liegen.
Wie Du siehst, ist die TV-Ausgang-Funktionalität offenbar in dem erwähnten monolithischen Nvidia-Modul enthalten (was meinem in diesem Zusammenhang noch nicht allzu entwickelten Verständnis nach die Möglichkeit erklärt, ohne X-Server-Neustart den Desktop auf den Fernseher zu erweitern), deren Einstellungen über zusätzliche

Monitor-/
Screen-Angaben in der
xorg.conf festgehalten werden.
Übrigens treten alle genannten Probleme schon dann auf, wenn der TV-Ausgang nur während einer Session einmal aktiv war, ohne daß überhaupt eine neue
xorg.conf erstellt wurde. Wie ich im Eingangsposting erwähnt hatte, hatte ich diese Probleme schon in 10.3, bevor ich dort überhaupt erstmalig Einstellungen per
xorg.conf hatte festschreiben lassen.
2. Habe KDE das letzte mal vor knapp einem Jahr selber im Einsatz gehabt. Ich muss leider gestehen das ich es zum kotzen finde.

Und schon allein zu sehen, wie in dem einen oder anderen KDE-basierten Progemm das Auswählen mehrerer Dateien in einem entsprechenden Dialog (z.B. in k3b bei der Auswahl, was auf eine CD soll) vonstatten geht, hält mich davon ab, auch nur ein einziges Mal wieder zu KDE zu greifen. Ich finde es zu groß, zu raumgreifend, zu häßlich.

Das tangiert aber KDE-Programme nicht mal periphär.

Mir ist aber noch eine Möglichkeit untergekommen: Vielleicht hantiert

Dabei kam mir die Zeile

Beide erwähnen die Umgebungsvariable "XDG_CONFIG_DIRS", erstere außerdem noch "XDG_DATA_DIRS".
