openSUSE 10.3 KDE Login Manager Probleme

Hallo Leuts,
ich hab (wieder mal) ein paar Problemchen und komme selbst nicht drauf.
Bitte deshalb um rege Teilnahme!
Nr. 1
Mein Login Manager (KDE) läßt sich nicht so einstellen, dass man das Logo oder die Uhr
angezeigt bekommt.
Nr. 2
Beim An- oder Abmelden schon bei der Eingabe des Benutzernamen - egal ob root oder anderer user - brauchts ewig lang, bis die Eingabe auf die Kennwortzeile springt.
Wechselt man gleich hinein (mit der Maus oder mit TAB) bekommt man nichts angezeigt,
die Eingabe wird jedoch erkannt und später abgearbeitet. NUR, dieses später kann sich von 3 bis 5 Minuten hinziehen.

Unmittelbar nach der Grundinstallation hat das alles Prima geflutscht, ich hab dann einiges ausprobiert, Update Repositories eingebunden, NVidia Treiber eingebunden, damit Google Earth läuft und irgendwann fing es dann zu zwicken an, ohne dass ich es gleich gemerkt habe.

Hat jemand ähnliche Erfahrungen gemacht?
Hat jemand eine Vermutung, woran das liegen kann?

derzeitige Konfiguration:
OS: Linux 2.6.22.13-0.3-bigsmp i686
openSUSE 10.3 (i586)
KDE: 3.5.7 "release 72.2"
Processor (CPU): AMD Sempron(tm) 2200+
Speed: 1,499.71 MHz
 
Was sagt denn das Logfile des Login-Managers nach einem zeitverzögerten Login?

Hab gerade kein suse zur Hand, aber sollte entweder

poste mal noch deine /etc/X11/xorg.conf sowie die Ausgabe von

Dies funktioniert über die KDE Einstellungen.
Wohl nur, wenn man sich als "root" einloggt.

Hallo, wollte mich abschließend noch einmal melden.
Das Problem hat sich erledigt. Offensichtlich waren die langen Ladezeiten die ersten Anzeichen vom Ableben meiner HDD.
Gestern ging dann gar nichts mehr - also openSUSE 10.3 neu aufgesetzt - läuft.
