Hey yeah allerseits,

ich probiere gerade nen HP pavilion ze4900 mit nem ubuntu 10.04 stabil zum laufen zu bekommen. Zuvor hatte ich ein Ubuntu 11.10 mit unity auf diesem geraet, da ich dachte das dies bei aelteren Systemen gnome2 verwendet. Da es aber doch mit unity bereit stand waren die 512 mb ram entwas unterdimensioniert. Darauf bin ich auf 10.04 umgestiegen was aber erhebliche Probleme mit dem Grafiktreiber hat. Nun habe ich hier den Kernel von 11.10 installiert und es ist mir moeglich als root X zu starten. Ein weiteres Problem ist, das ich den dbus jedes mal mit
Code:
dbus-daemon --system

starten muss. Um Programme auf der grafischen Oberflaeche zu starten.

Da ich mir nicht total klar bin was die aufgabe des dbus ist, aber meine vermutung ist das es falsch konfiguriert (warscheinlich configured fuer den alten kernel) ist und deshalb rumspackt.
Falls ihr ne idee habt ,was es sein koennte, lasst es mich wissen. Ansonsten wird meine Mitbewohnerin sauer^^
 
Mir fallen da gleich mehrere Dinge auf, die ich anmerken sollte.

Zum einen eine ältere Distribution muss nicht ressourcenschonender sein. Ubuntu 10.04 ist allerdings eine LTS version (3 Jahre Support), also ist es auch vollkommen in Ordnung die Version zu verwenden. Du kannst bei Ubuntu 11.* aber auch andere Wms verwenden.

Wenn du wenig ram hast kannst du den gnome 2 fork "mate" verwenden, Anleitungen zur Installation unter Ubuntu findest du sicher genügend. Du kannst aber auch statdessen schlankere wms verwenden, wie openbox, fluxbox, herbstluftwm, i3, enlightenment, windowmaker, lxde oder xfce (liste unvollständig, das sind nur eine Hand voll, die mir gerade in den Kopf gekommen sind). Die kannst du dir auch auf deinem Ubuntu installieren, dafür musst du dir nicht extra eine neue Distribution suchen.

Dbus ist mittlerweile schon so verbreitet, dass es seinen eigenen Wikipedia artikel hat. Wie du sehen kannst ist das ein Programm, dass so hoch im userspace steht, dass es eher schwer an einem alten Kernel liegen kann. Wieso überhaupt alter kernel?

Wenn deine Xsession nicht hinhaut, weil irgendwas im Userspace kaputt ist wird eine Datei, die so heißt wie "~/.xsessionerrors" oder ähnlich angelegt in der drinnen steht, was los ist.
 
Ja andere WMs kommen leider nicht so richtig in Frage, da die zukuenftige userin quasi nur WinXp skills besitzt. Dazu kommt das ich kde auf den tod nicht ausstehen kann, ich ihr aber trotzdem ne vernuenftige oberflaeche bieten. Von daher gnome2. Hab jetzt wieder 11.10 insalliert und dann

jetzt laeuft das system einigermassen stable. Leider kann ich mir jetzt die .xsessionerrors nicht mehr angucken, haette gerne gewusst was da los ist.
 
Und was genau spricht jetzt gegen enlightenment, lxde und xfce?

Die haben auch alle etwas, wie eine taskleiste und man kann auch überall irgendwelche verknüpfungen auf den desktop legen ich bin schon der ansicht, dass eine "vernünftige Oberfläche" und eine Ressourcenschonender Windowmanager sich nicht ausschließen.

Ich würd an deiner stelle aber auch mate installieren und nicht irgendein gnome-2-fallback zeug, gnome2 wird nicht mehr weiterentwickelt, mate schon.
