Hi,
Will mich kurz fassen weil ich nicht weiß wie lange mein Ubuntu noch aushält ohne einzufrieren. Habe 3 Fragen.

Frage 1:
Wie kann ich die Grafikkartentreiber für eine "ATI Radeon X1950pro" installieren? Zwar habe ich im Internet diverse Anleitungen für ATI Karten gefunden, doch keine für mein Modell. Auch auf www.ati.com finde ich keine Treiber speziell für mein Modell. Was kann ich also tun? Weiß jemand Rat?

Frage 2:
Habe mir einen 22" Widescreen (Acer) gekauft. Wie kann ich die richtige Bildschirmauflösung wählen? Unter "System -> Einstellungen -> Bildschirmauflösung" kann ich diese nicht wählen (1280x1024 ist das höchste). Muss ich etwa irgendwas in der xorg.conf ändern? Wenn ja, was?

Frage 3:
Mein Ubuntu lahmt und hängt sich zwischendurch auf. Ich weiß echt nicht woran das liegen könnte. Bringt es was Ubuntu komplett neuzuinstallieren weil ich in meiner Naivität irgendetwas kaputt gemacht habe?! Wenn ja, wie? Wie kann ich Ubuntu entfernen und schließlich neuinstallieren?! Weiß das wirklich nicht.

Bin noch sehr unerfahren im Umgang mit Linux..

Also: zu 1. kann ich nichts sagen da ich eine Nvidia Graka verwenden.
zu 2.:
Jop du musst die Auflösung in die xorg.conf schreien. Am besten postest du sie mal.

zu 3.:
Das könnte wiederrum am Graka-Treiber liegen oder Defekter Ram bzw. Bad Sektoren auf der Platte

zu 1. falls Du nichts gegenteiliges hören / lesen solltest, würde ich einfach mal den neusten Treiber von der Ati Seite probieren - hab aber auch nicht den Plan von ATI - evtl. sagt hier noch jemand anderes (der mehr Plan davon hat) was besseres dazu.

zu 2. erst nach der Grafiktreiber installation - sonnst machst Du es dann nochmal. Außerdem kommen die Auflösungen mit dem Treiber.

zu 3. möglich, aber nicht unbedingt Erfolgsversprechend. Schau mal in der "Konsole" mit

od irgendein Programm dauerhaft hohe Auslastungen erzeugt oder sich anders artig unnormal verhält - Auf Deiner CD / DVD sollte ein Speichertest sein, lass den mal vorsichtshalber laufen.
Solltest Du Dich für eine Neuinstallation entscheiden, kannst Du es mit "acpi=off" bei der Installation versuchen (ist aber nicht meine Empfehlung - das gleich zu tun).

Ich hötte gerne eine Auflösung von 1680 x 1050px .
Naja.. muss ich wohl weiter durchs internet stöbern. Vielleicht finde ich ja doch noch was passendes tzu meinem Treiber..

Hab zwar auch keine ATI (mehr), aber wenns der Treiber für die X1900-Series nicht tut, schaut die Karte noch ziemlich ununterstützt aus :( (zum. was die original-Treiber angeht)

Wegen der Auflösung müsstest du die halt noch bei den "Auflösungszeilen" vorne mit dranhängen, dann solltest du die *eigentlich* auswählen können.

hast du schon die ubuntu ati treiber ausprobiert?
unter system sollte ein menü punkt für eingeschränkte treiber sein.

die auflösung kannst du eigentlich relativ einfach ändern.
einfach

sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

in einem terminal eingeben. irgendwo sollten ziemlich viele auflösungen auftauchen. dort änderst du unter Depth 24 eine der auflösungen in 1680x1050. dann abspeichern und neustarten.

Naja, die Open-Source-Treiber halt. Aber ich denk mal, das die eher noch weiter hinterherhinken...

Und spätestens ab hier wirds immer mehr Halbwissen ;) :

- keine Fehler bzgl des Treibers im /etc/Xorg.0.log
- fglrxinfo zbsp oder
- glxinfo | grep direct ("direct rendering : yes") oder
- glxinfo | vendor ("irgendwas mit ATI in deinem Fall")

Auch an die anderen ein großes Dankeschön. Die Bildschirmauflösung funktioniert nun auch richtig :))

EDIT: Klappt wohl doch nicht. Habe nämlich mal "glxgears" eingegeben. Die Rädchen drehen sich nicht flüssig. Also wieder von vorne anfangen? :(

Da ich mein System (wie auch immer ich das geschafft habe) total zerschossen habe, entschied ich mich kurzer Hand alles neu zu machen.
Doch:
Die Grafikkartentreiber lassen sich nach wie vor nicht installieren. Da ich eine Radeon X1950pro besitze, ging ich nach diesem (http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/123747/?highlight=x195) HowTo vor. Alles klappte wunderbar.
Aber -> Die Ausgabe von "fglrxinfo" gibt

Untersuche mal deine Logdatei des Xservers nach Error oder Warnings.
