    X-server stürzt ab/ 3D Fullscreen läuft nicht

    Hallo, seit ein paar Tagen stüzt bei mir der X-server gerne mal ab. Das heisst genauer gesagt ich boote kdm startet ich melde mit an und benutzte KDE 3.5.9 "release 60.3", KDE startet normal doch dann stüzt es ab und ich lande wieder bei kdm.

    Das /var/log/kdm file bringt mich nicht wirklich weiter:

    Das Problem liegt bei dem NVIDIA-Treiber, das bestätigt auch eine Google-Recherche.

    Ggf. mal xorg.conf posten und den Treiber mal neu installieren.

    Er hat geschrieben, das er ein Update des Systems gemacht hat. Aslo Vermutung auf Kernelupdate das Nvidia Treiber gegen die Wand läuft.

    Nicht bei jedem Systemupdate ist ein neuer Kernel dabei, zumal der Treiber nur dann neu installiert werden muss, wenn er mittels der .run-Datei gebaut wurde.

    Zuviel Spekulatius für diese Jahreszeit (könntest natürlich dennoch richtig liegen, aber der letzte SuSE-Kernelupdate liegt ja auch schon etwas zurück, zumal er dann ja *überhaupt nicht* in X hineingelangen würde).

    Komisch nur, dass ich fortwaehrend meinen Kernel compile/packe/update, und nie die Grafik-Treiber updaten muss (das Einzige was man bei neuem Kernel updaten muss ist ndiswrapper und was .ko-Module hat). Im momentanen neuen mainboard ist eine eingebaute nvidia-Grafik, frueher hatte ich eine Radeon-Karte, bei keiner davon war noetig den Treiber neu zu installieren !!!

    Wie gesagt, kommt darauf an, wie man den Treiber installiert hat - sofern er aus einem Repository stammt, brauch man sich um Kernelupgrades keinen Kopf machen.

    Glaub nicht, das bei werner1234 der Treiber aus nem Repo kommt ... obwohl... bei sys is alles moeglich :P

    Aber nach nem Kernelupdate und "manueller" Treiberinstallation ists definitiv noetig, den neu zu installieren.

    Steht denn die richtige Karte (noch) in der xorg.conf? (Laut Google auch so ne Fehlerquelle dafuer...)

    schonmal vielen Dank für euren Antworten, da ich erst jetzt Zeit habe kann ich leider erst jetzt antworten, also unter dem "Update" war mit sicherheit kein Kernelupdate, ein Nvidiatreiberupdate war meiner Meinung auch nicht dabei. Ich nutzte seit einiger Zeit die automatische Installation der Grafiktreiber für meiner Geforce FX5200 über Yast, weil ichs bequemer als die manuelle Installation ist, naja dann werde ich wieder umsteigen, oder was meint ihr?
    Wenn ich beim automatischem bleibe wäre es doch sinnvoll die Font Path eintragen zu aktualisieren?
    Die richtige Karte steht ja drin, daa dran solls nicht liegen.

    hmmh ich kann weder im log, noch in der xorg.conf etwas sehen, das einen fehler verursachen könnte.

    eine liste der pakete, die du geupdatet hast, bevor das problem auftrat wäre ganz gut
    (weiss aber nicht wo du das bei suse findest).

    und/oder nvidia treiber mal neuinstallieren, eventuell auch nen älteren.

    ähm, da gibt es ein Problem und zwar mach ich grad wieder ein Update, das diverse KDE4 Pakete und ein paar für KDE3 enthält. Naja ich werd dann mal den Treiber manuell installieren, mal sehen ob es was bringt, weil es nervt das jedesmal der Xserver abstüzt wenn ich mit Strg+Alt+F* das Fenster wechsele.

    Nvidia Treiber lieber mit der guten alten Console machen... Sischer isch sischer :-D

    So hab jetzt die 169.12 Version manuell installiert, nun funktioniert das "umschalten" wieder.
    Wieder was gelernt, Nividatreiber nur per Konsole installieren.
    Jetzt erst mal das Repo löschen.
